Character: Sasuke Uchiha
Canon: Naruto: Shippuuden
Version: Manga.
Canon Point: Chapter 586 or so (mid-to-early stages of the battle with Sage Kabuto)
Age: 16 probably verging on 17 but hahaha this series is so bad at timekeeping.
Gender: Male

History: A seven-year-old ninja kid watched his entire family die, developed PTSD and became a wanted ninja criminal. Also his eyes are magical and he has a brother complex the size of canada.

Personality: Sasuke is essentially what you get when you take a cute, impressionable kid with an inferiority complex and serious brotherly hero worship, and torture him beyond all sanity and reason by having that brother slaughter everyone he loves. Add a dash of revenge fixation and stir well, until that's the only thing the kid is able to focus on. Wait a few years, until he's actually made friends and seems almost to be moving past the trauma and isolation, and then do it all again by making him relive the death of his entire family over and over again in a nightmare world for twenty-four hours straight. Season with mind-altering blood chemicals that activate whenever you feel emotion. To finish, present him with the option of defecting to an evil scientist to gain enough power to stop the torture from ever happening again, and serve with salt and pepper to taste.

It's important when looking at Sasuke to realise that whatever his original personality might have been, it's buried under a mountain of post-traumatic stress disorder, creepy ninja drugs, and complexes. He has essentially taken whatever parts of his own personality are 'slowing him down', and ripped them out with extreme prejudice. This means he's socially inept to a huge degree, though his looks and his surface politeness to people he doesn't care about can generally get him a free pass through most shallow interactions. He's distant, cold, and hugely unlikeable. If you try to hold an actual conversation with him, you'll fail. Unless you have something he wants, that is, but by this point he'd just mentally torture you until he got it instead of bothering with the hassle of a normal conversation. So, generally, trying to talk to him is like trying to squeeze blood from a stone.

Remaining is his extreme and arrogant pride in the Uchiha clan and his own abilities, and his smug, almost condescending manner when dealing with others. Gone is his care for others and his personal code of honour, though this could be fixed given time.

As such, he's pretty much Neutral Evil as far as alignments go. He's joined any number of evil people throughout his life, all purely to further his own goals. To him, the alignment and goals of his allies are entirely incidental. It's not that he's a horrible judge of character - to be horrible at it, he'd have to actually care enough to judge them in the first place. He even manages to kill several villains or otherwise indirectly help the good guys several times, too, but again, he's not doing this for them. Often he doesn't even realise the two are related. He's a force totally divorced from the actual action of his series to the point that his continued presence is almost laughable.

Whilst he used to have a code of honour - he would kill no one but his brother - he has discarded it entirely and will now kill indiscriminately if pushed. Deranged is a good word for it. You're safest if he doesn't notice you, really, because his desire for revenge has spiralled entirely out of control and collateral damage is now a certainty. Just as he discards undesirable traits, he also discards bonds and relationships that no longer benefit him. What healing he had undergone from forming bonds with his friends was stomped into the ground after Itachi's death, and it's going to take him a long time to recover even the pieces of his ability to form relationships... Which is bizarre, because even now he's alarmingly prone to sacrificing himself for others if you don't give him time to think. Likewise, he can and will work alongside others if forced or if it seems like he won't manage it alone, but he won't do it out of any particular loyalty, and will attempt to discard them the second he feels they've become a hindrance.

Fears: Most of his fears are repressed but hooboy. OKAY SO. First of all, his fear that he isn't strong enough. He's haunted by the idea that people he cares about will die because he doesn't have the power to save them. This is partly why he distances himself and denies any relationships, and why he reacts so violently and emotionally when he realises Itachi was 'good' all along - he could have saved him, rather than kill him, if he had known earlier. Powerlessness in general terrifies him. To be in a situation with no chakra and no options is inherently a nightmare to him. Immobilisation and general failure, too. Second, he has a deep-seated horror of Orochimaru that he worked very, very hard to suppress. That is, snakes, elongated tongues across pale lips, experiments, test tubes, needles, 'Sasuke-kun' crooned in the darkness... whilst most of this is met outwardly with mild distaste at most, it took him four years to totally hide his immediate horror, and combine this with his powerlessness fear for extreme results. He has no real reaction to anyone else behaving like this, so it seems like it's Orochimaru in particular that this fear is linked with. Third, having his body stolen, that is, to lose control of your body to another person whilst still being aware. Linked with this is metamorphosis - having his body transformed or mutated against his will. And finally, he has a latent terror of his eyes being plucked out thanks to the loving attentions of his brother.

Weaknesses: Uchiha Itachi. Mention his name around Sasuke and actually get a reaction! Insult him and get a sword through the throat! It's magical. Thanks to plot developments, Sasuke loves his brother again, which has deftly turned Itachi into his greatest weakness and the easiest way to get a reaction from him.

In general terms, Sasuke is intensely easy to manipulate, in that if you tell him to do something and relate it even weakly to his own goals, he'll do it. It's described in the series as his being like a blank canvas that displays whatever is painted upon it. Alternatively, it's because he's a serial betrayer and has no actual lasting allegiances. Also, he's minmaxed beyond all belief in favour of combat abilities, so place him in a situation that can't be solved by setting everything on fire and he's totally screwed. He's also easily overwhelmed because what little ability in teamwork he'd regained over the course of the series got crushed under the heel of his latest breakdown and he tends to wade into situations that he can't handle.

A huge number of his supernatural abilities are ocular in nature - blind him or cover/seal his eyes and he loses most of his power and also takes a huge psychological hit. Similarly, if you bind his hands, he can't use most of his other techniques.

Mundane Strengths/Abilities: The standard repertoire of ninja powers - bare-handed fighting, marksmanship with bladed throwing weapons, and what amount to highly advanced althetic and gymnastic abilities. He can use ninja wire for fast movement or restraints, or as a conductor for either fire or electricity. Generally his use of ninja tools is top-notch. He can also use a bow and a sword with great skill. He can detect potential in people and utilise their individual abilities surprisingly well for someone who failed both Co-operation and Assertiveness in ninja school. He knows an unnerving amount of random trivia about snakes.

He's also ~really pretty~. This generally gives people who don't know him a terribly incorrect first impression.

Sensitivity/Magical Ability: He can see in pitch darkness, and his sharingan can detect chakra - spiritual energy/souls - in the form of colours overlayed across his vision. It also memorised every movement and gesture he sees. He has no superhuman sensory abilities beyond the visual.

Ability-wise, he can cast illusions, set things on fire, electrocute things, walk on walls, ceilings, water, he can summon giant hawks for no canon reason... please just read his abilities section in the wiki I linked to, or we'll be here all day. SUFFICE TO SAY HE HAS A LOT OF STUPID FLASHY NINJA MAGIC. Of special mention is that he can cast black flames from his eyes that will never stop burning and hit anything he's looking at. He himself is not immune to them, so fun times. He can also use 'susano'o', which manifests as a huge skeletal spirit warrior whose body serves as a shield for Sasuke. Imagine a magical spirit mecha with no legs and you've got the essential idea of susano'o.

Supply List: A straight, single-edged sword, a set of twelve kunai, five exploding tags, two fuma shuriken (folded), two spools of ninja wire. His own eyes in a sealed tube (he's got his brother's implanted, these are spares.) (seriously Kishimoto what the actual fuck you're not CLAMP) (or are you)

Sample RP post: The world was melting away in shades of music, thick ropes of melody holding him fast inside the illusion. This isn't good, he thought, in the brief moments of lucidity between bars and phrases, as their enemy stopped to breath. They were going to lose, the sharingan couldn't block sound--

"Sasuke, look into my eyes!"

Of course. His head snapped sideways, eyes seeking their identical copies across the cave. The world inverted, flipped into that unpleasant world of the Tsukiyomi, and his bonds were slashed apart in seconds even as he felt Itachi's give way beneath his own illusion. The surprising thrill of fighting alongside his brother left a faint smile on the face of the illusionary Sasuke as he faded. Once more, the world blurred, the darkness of the cave and the glow of twin susano'o coming back into focus... and then everything lurched again. Sasuke lost his balance, staggering backwards as stone melted away again beneath his feet. No! Another trap? A deeper illusion, waiting for them to free themselves from the first? Or had they been too late, and Kabuto had managed to get close enough--

His knees hit stone again, and he almost - almost! - retched as gravity and direction returned to normal. He wouldn't give Kabuto the satisfaction, naturally; as soon as he could, he jumped to his feet, and ran a gamut of dispelling techniques.

Nothing happened. Even less happened because halfway through the techniques, his vision came back, sharingan hissing through his eyes, and he took in the grand room he had fallen into, hands frozen in the middle of a seal. It looked alien, foreign. Too detailed to be another fake, too bizarre to come from the brain of someone like Kabuto, who took everything from the minds and bodies of others.

"Itachi," he called, voice only slightly raised. If this was a trap, he wasn't going to alert them to it working. Already he had spun on the huge doors, ready to blast them open. Should he use something powerful, or save his strength for the battle to come? He would try once, and then reconsider. "Brother, where are you?"

The room echoed back, oppressive in its silence, and he grimly readied his first attack.
